What is a RDHAP?
Effective January 1, 1998, a new catagory of licensure was established by law. Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice. Duties may be performed in the following settings.
(1) Residences of the homebound.
(2) Schools.
(3) Residential facilities & other institutions.
(4) Dental health professional shortage areas.

An RDHAP may only perform allowable services for a patient who presents a written prescription for dental hygiene. Prescriptions must be issued by a dentist, physician, or surgeon licensed to practice in this state who has performed a physical examination & a diagnosis of the patient prior to a prescription being provided. The prescription may be valid up to 15 months.
